Cherry Hill community starts crowd funding campaign to pay for long-time resident’s medical expenses

Schetter

Friends and family in the Cherry Hill community have always rallied around each other in times of need. Whether it’s been for a neighbor fighting cancer or a family who lost their house in a fire, those in the community have long held fundraising events like spaghetti dinners and silent auctions to help their neighbors through difficult times.

Now, through a growing trend called crowdfunding, they are taking these efforts online. Friends and family of Stephen Schetter have set up a crowdfunding page on the popular crowdunding website, GiveForward.com. More than one million people have contributed over $100 million on GiveForward with 99 cents out of every dollar going directly to the people in need.

So far the friends and family of Stephen have raised $1085 for medical expenses due to cancer since the campaign launched on Dec. 26, 2014.

Stephen Schetter, an extremely hardworking and kind man, has been a long time resident of Cherry Hill and was a local business man for over 40 years. When the business fell a few years back, raising his family of five became more of a struggle. Stephen, being the hard working man that he is didn’t give up. He found part time jobs so he could support his wife and three children, ages 23, 19 and 4.

In mid-December Stephen was diagnosed with colon cancer that had spread to his liver. The family has been so strong but they are anxious about the upcoming medical expenses. Stephen had to have surgery to remove his colon in the month of January and is receiving chemo in February.

In order to be able to maintain a sense of normalcy, the family has reached out to giveforward.com and their friends and family. The donations will be able to lessen the financial stress of medical bills and the family can focus on being able to pay daily bills.

The team of volunteers wants to make sure Stephen will be able to get all the medical treatment he needs to conquer this battle.

“We are so grateful for the support we have already received. It’s an amazing feeling seeing the community, friends and family pull together to help this family get through this trying time. Thank you to everything. It means more to the family than you could even imagine” said Tara DeMarco, team member
