Conversation on race relations in America to take place at Medford Leas on Feb. 28

The public is invited to “Talking Across the Gap — Race Relations in America” on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The discussion will feature a panel of informed individuals, including Angelina Dean, author and activist, James Thornton, retired chief of Camden City Schools Police and Camden Police Department, Beverly Davis, retired Medford school teacher, and Dr. Larry Pettis, physician and correctional medical director. They will answer race related questions from a moderator and audience. The program is focused on current events of racial protest from the Michael Brown and Eric Gardner cases.

The program will allow an open forum of discussions about racism and diversity in our country and community. Dr. James Still lived and experienced racism in the 1800s. He wanted to help all people, black or white, with his herbal medicine. He was known as the “first black doctor of the pines.” This program is presented by the Dr. James Still Educational Center and Historic Site. This event will be held at the Holly Room at Medford Leas. The cost is $25 per adult and $10 per student with a buffet lunch included.

Reservations may be made by calling (609) 654–6485 day or night. The deadline for reservations is Monday, Feb. 23. Please make checks out to DJSEC/MHS and send payment to P.O. Box 362, Medford, New Jersey 08055. Seating is limited.
