Moorestown Parks and Rec Column and Schedule

This January the Department of Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce its First Annual Special Needs Providers Fair. This event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 25, snow date Feb. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Church Street Recreation Center in the Moorestown Municipal Complex. This event is specifically geared toward assisting special needs individuals and their families and caregivers find services and opportunities locally. It is open to the public at no charge.

The Moorestown Special Needs Committee, under the direction of director Theresa Miller and the Department of Parks & Recreation, has created this Special Needs Providers Fair as a means of developing the social and professional network available to Special Needs Families in southern New Jersey. In its inaugural year, the fair will provide service information from health care and behavioral service to music therapy and sports activities. Many parents or caregivers for special needs individuals participate in the numerous programs the department offers annually. This Special Needs Providers Fair is designed to serve families in Moorestown and the surrounding communities and will give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn about services provided for individuals with various disabilities.

To date, registered providers include representatives from special needs health care providers, legal services, physical therapists, behavioral counseling services and recreational activity providers. With nearly two-dozen providers already registered there are only a few spots remaining. From physical therapy and pediatric care to parent-sponsored groups and sports organizations, this providers fair promises to be a tremendous resource for local families seeking assistance for their loved ones with disabilities.

For parents and caregivers of special needs individuals or those with disabilities, this providers fair promises to offer assistance, resources, information, suggestions and networking opportunities with others. The Department of Parks & Recreation is pleased to be able to offer local families assistance through information sharing and networking. Additionally, information about the departments’ many special needs programs and opportunities will be available.

Does your company or organization provide services or products that would benefit individuals with disabilities and their families? If so, then purchase a space at the Special Needs Providers’ Fair sponsored by Moorestown Department of Parks & Recreation! Registration can be found at www.moorestownrec.com. Each registered organization will be given a 6-by-2.5-foot table and one to two chairs. We encourage all participants to bring handouts, brochures, promotional items and/or giveaways.
