Indian Mills Elementary School students collect for those in need

PajamaDrive

When you walk into any first grade classroom at Indian Mills School, the one thing you will notice right away is that these kids love to read! This passion is not limited to the school day. In fact, one of their favorite times to read is before bedtime. Just before the holidays, the classes sat down with their teachers and talked about how the celebration should be more about helping others than just getting presents, especially those that don’t have things they need like books, clothing and food.

The teachers knew of a program sponsored by Scholastic that ties the concept of reading with pajamas. They explained the program to their classes and highlighted the donation of books to children in need for every pair of new pajamas provided. Without hesitation, these first graders jumped at the opportunity to help other children enjoy reading as much as they do, and read in a cozy new pair of pajamas. The ensuing drive helped children in Shamong and the surrounding area have books and clothing they wouldn’t have otherwise. It also helped our children learn a valuable lesson about caring.

At the conclusion of the drive, Indian Mills Elementary School’s first grade classes collected 50 pairs of brand new pajamas for the Scholastic Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. The first grade classes of Mrs. Newman, Mrs. Barnes, Mrs. Hendron and Mrs. Rinker all contributed to the collection.
