Young Farmers Award Congress coming to Cherry Hill in 2015

The National Outstanding Young Farmers Award Congress will be held in Cherry Hill, from Thursday, Feb. 12 through Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Crown Plaza Hotel. This will be the 59th annual awards Congress. This program started in 1954 with the purpose to bring greater interest in the farmer and to have better relations between urban and rural communities.

The congress is the culmination of the intense independent judging process. Ten nominees from across the United States will be competing for one of the four national winner spots. Nominees are between the ages of 21 and 40. The nominees have to be actual farm operators and derive two-thirds of their income from farming. They are judged on progress in their agricultural career, extent of soil and water conservation practices and contributions to the well-being of the community, state and nation.

The program is administered by the Outstanding Young Farmers of America Fraternity, sponsored by John Deere, founded by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and supported by the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.
