Mt. Police arrest man after bank robbery, police chase

The following information was provided by the Mt. Laurel Police Department.

On Dec. 3 at 4:58 p.m. Mt. Laurel police officers responded to an armed robbery at the PNC Bank located at 127 Ark Road.

It was reported that a lone suspect entered the bank, brandished a handgun, and announced a robbery. The suspect, who was wearing a ski mask and hooded jacket, demanded money and was given an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled the area in a vehicle.

Based upon information broadcast by responding officers the suspect vehicle was located in the area of Nixon Drive and Interstate-295 in Mt. Laurel. Officers attempted to stop the suspect on Lenola Road near King’s Highway in Moorestown. However, he refused to stop. A vehicle pursuit ensued but ended shortly after it began when the suspect crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on Route 73 near the King’s Highway ramp in Maple Shade. The suspect was quickly apprehended by Mt. Laurel Police Officers. The stolen money and handgun were recovered from the vehicle.

The suspect arrested was identified as a 33-year-old man from Stratford. He was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second degree eluding and third degree theft. Bail was set at $215,000 and he was committed to Burlington County Jail.

Detectives from the Mt. Laurel Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are investigating this crime. No customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery and no one was injured during this incident.
