Cherokee High School Marching Band wins 2014–2015 USBands Group 5A National Championship

The Cherokee High School Marching Band earned the title of US Bands National Champions in Group 5A on Saturday, Nov 8. The National Championship competition was held at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa. In addition to the national title, the Marching Band’s Color Guard was awarded Best Color Guard for the second consecutive year. The music and marching staff members are very proud and would like to thank all of the Cherokee Marching Band students, parents, and alumni for their efforts in building towards this unforgettable victory. Group 5A requires an over-all membership of 101 to 135 student musicians. Cherokee Marching Band, under the direction of D. Michael Lynch, is marching the largest number of students within recent years and has 106 members. This is their first National Championship under his and four section instructors. The Color Guard, an integral part of the marching band, was also awarded a first place award within the competition special awards categories. Go Chiefs.
