With Thanksgiving only a week away and the winter holidays to follow soon after, Evesham residents are at no loss for events to keep them busy throughout the rest of 2014.

Taking place the night before Thanksgiving on Nov. 26 is the 34th annual Marlton Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at 7 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church of Marlton, 515 E. Main St.

The service provides the various Christian denominations from Marlton’s major houses of worship and Jewish congregants from Congregation Beth Tikvah the chance to interact with a welcoming crowd with food, conversation and a religious service.

Then on Thanksgiving Day at 11 a.m., residents looking for something to do outside of eating turkey can enjoy some football fun with the homecoming football game at Cherokee High School against rival Seneca.

The following day, Cherokee will then take the township into the winter holiday season when it presents “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Nov. 28 and 29, and the following week on Dec. 5 and 6.

All shows start at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center at 130 Tomlinson Mill Road. Tickets for students and seniors will be $8, with tickets for adults priced at $12. As the township moves into December, the Evesham Celebrations Foundation will once again partner with the Evesham Fire Department to host the annual Winterfest on Friday, Dec. 5.

Located at the Main Street Firehouse, the festivities will start around 5 p.m., and will include free hot chocolate and other crafts and foods that can be purchased from vendors. Then around 6 p.m., after his long trip from the North Pole, Santa Claus will arrive for free pictures with kids.

“I think the highlight of the event is children seeing Santa and getting their picture taken with him…I still get a kick out of seeing him coming down the fire pole,” Evesham Celebrations Foundation member Sandy Student said.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, residents looking to give back to those serving in the armed forces will have the chance with Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey’s holiday cookie and baked goods drive.

From 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. at the 8th Legislative District Office at 176 Route 70, Suite 13 in Medford, members of OYRSJ will be on-hand to receive donated baked goods and treats from members of the community to be used in care packages for those overseas.

Store bought treats are also accepted, although OYRSJ requests that all donations are in layers in large plastic bags or in disposable containers.

Also throughout December, Evesham’s elementary schools will host the following different concerts for parents and family:

· Wednesday, Dec. 3: DeMasi Elementary vocal concert at 7 p.m.

· Tuesday, Dec. 9: Van Zant Elementary winter concert at 7 p.m.
