Burlington County Library System collects 2,804 pounds of food

The Burlington County Library System collected 2,804 pounds of food during this month’s “Food for Fines” program, the largest food drive of the year so far for the Food Bank of South Jersey.

The library system would like to thank all its customers who helped support this successful effort by donating generously to help our neighbors in need.

The “Food for Fines” program was held Oct. 6 to Oct. 12 and for every item donated up to 10 items, $2 in fines were waived, with the exception of fees for lost items and collection fees. Library customers were asked to drop off non-perishable food at the county library in Westampton and the branch facilities in Bordentown, Cinnaminson, Evesham, Maple Shade, Medford, Pemberton and Riverton.

All collected donations have been given to the Food Bank of South Jersey, which provides “an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to needy people, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives.”
