The 2nd Big Play Date is Oct. 11 at the Voorhees Branch Library

Over 200 children, parents and caregivers enjoyed a Big Play Date at the Voorhees branch of the Camden County Library System in March. The library will stage its second play date Saturday, Oct. 11, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for children ages one to three.

Parents and other caregivers are invited to see how every-day, simple and inexpensive items found in most households can be used to play with their children in meaningful ways. Studies have shown how regular play between children and parents can enhance a child’s cognitive and emotional development over the long term.

Library staff will have several stations set up on the first floor of the M. Allan Vogelson Regional Library in Voorhees that will allow parents and caregivers to play with their children using different materials at the Big Play Date.

ShopRite of Lawnside will provide healthy snacks for kids at the event and will be sending a registered dietician, Jessica Molinaro, to offer advice for parents on how to make sure their children are eating healthy, nutritious foods.

“Our event in March was so successful; we knew we wanted to do it again in the fall. It’s a great way to spend a morning with your child engaged in meaningful play with simple, inexpensive items found around the house,” said Emily Moore as head of Children’s Services at the Voorhees Library.

Those attending the program can circulate and visit the stations in any order with no strict schedule between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on the first floor of the M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch Library in Voorhees. A story time is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The event is free and open to any parents and caregivers in the area, but registration is required. Call the branch at (856) 772–1636 or visit online at SignUp at www.camdencountylibrary.org/events
