The Burlington County Library System invites customers to have their library fines waived from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12 by donating “Food for Fines” to help support the Food Bank of South Jersey.

For every item donated up to 10 items, $2 in fines will be waived. All collected items will be given to the Food Bank of South Jersey.

“We’re pleased to offer the Food for Fines drive which will help our customers wipe away their library fines while at the same time lend a helping hand to our neighbors in need,” BCLS Director Ranjna Das said. “Fines will be waived for up to ten donated items, however customers are welcome and encouraged to donate more.”

Up to $20 in fines (for 10 donated items) may be waived per customer, although fees for lost items and collection fees will not be waived.

Library customers are asked to drop off non-perishable food at any participating BCLS location. Participating locations include the County Library in Westampton and the branch facilities in Bordentown, Cinnaminson, Evesham, Maple Shade, Medford, Pemberton and Riverton.

Most desirable donation items include: peanut butter and jelly; tuna; macaroni and cheese; breakfast cereal; pasta; canned vegetables; canned fruit; stew and chili.

Please note: library staff cannot accept previously-opened containers, repackaged and homemade items, outdated products or perishable items, such as bread, pie, cake, produce, or meat. For more information about the Food for Fines program, please call (609) 267–9660.
