‘Movies in the Park’ to feature LED screen to finish Summer Twilight Series

BEACH MOVIE - BRIGANTINE

The Summer Twilight Series finished its last concert on Aug. 7, but Voorhees Township is throwing one more surprise at residents at Movies in the Park on Sept. 13.

“This year’s ‘Movies in the Park’ will feature two firsts,” Special Events Director Michael Marchitto said. “It will be the first time we will be showing a Disney movie, and it will also be the first time we will be using an LED screen.”

The movie will be Disney’s “Frozen,” which Marchitto said should bring in a large crowd due to its popularity.

“It is one of the biggest movies to come out in the last few years,” he said. “Parents and kids alike all rave about it, so we’re expecting a very big crowd to turn out on Sept. 13. We’re hoping to get about 3,000 people to come out to watch the movie at Connolly Park.”

Big crowds have been the norm during the Summer Twilight Series. Every concert has continued to bring more people, culminating in the record-breaking crowd of nearly 4,000 at the Aug. 7 Almost Queen concert.

“It has been a wonderful summer for us,” Marchitto said. “This has definitely been the best summer as far as numbers are concerned, and we’re very happy to be able to give the people something they can enjoy.”

The inclusion of the LED screen is something Marchitto is very excited about. The screen will be brought to Connolly Park by Eye to Eye Media, who will also set it up.

The screen was first used in Brigantine and has also been featured in Cape May County, but, according to Marchitto, this will be the first time an LED screen will be used in this area.

“We just thought it was time to take it up a notch, and this is a great way for Voorhees to lead the way,” Marchitto said. “We’re making a concerted effort to try to incorporate technology into our events to attract more people, and this is one example of how it can work for us.”

The LED screen is nine feet by 17 feet and features concert quality sound as well, which will allow more people to enjoy the movie.

“In the past, it was hard for us to even want there to be a few thousand people at this event because the technology just wasn’t there to make it work,” Marchitto said. “But now, regardless of how many people show up, we know everyone will be able to enjoy the show.”

Like all the other Summer Twilight Series events, admission and parking are free. Attendees will also be able to purchase food and drinks from vendors, or bring their own food and drinks.

“We want to make this a fun family night for everyone,” Marchitto said. “We think the combination of the movie choice and the big screen plus the free admission will make this a great night for everyone to come out and enjoy.”
