Internationally celebrated jazz banjoist Cynthia Sayer, a New Jersey native and founding member of Woody Allen’s jazz band, is on a mission to bring the 4-string jazz banjo back to popularity. Sayer will lead her all-star Sparks Fly Quartet for a rare local concert appearance on Sunday, August 17, at 2 p.m. for the Tri-State Jazz Society at the United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, 29 Warwick Road, Haddonfield. Sayer’s vocals are divine and her banjo a driving force of nature, think Django Reinhardt meets Bela Fleck, as she swings through an eclectic program of hot jazz, tango, Great American Songbook, vaudeville, classical, roots music and more. Tickets are $20/$10 for first-timers and free for students with I.D. and young children with paying adult. Door tickets only, no advance sales.
