Opinion: Government handouts do not make people happier

In survey after survey, for as long as I can remember, the Danes have consistently taken first place as the happiest people in the world.

Pick up any tourist brochure about Denmark, and it will tell you!

Liberals all across the world have taken those surveys to heart and have drawn the connection that happiness goes hand in hand with free education, free health care for all, free everything.

You can scratch that theory!

A bunch of professors at Warwick University in the United Kingdom have taken upon themselves to determine exactly what makes people happy (or unhappy).

They were able to isolate economic and sociodemographic factors, and have concluded that happiness is in someone’s genes.

In other words, happiness is genetic and nothing else!

Their research extended to Australia and the United States, where they found that Australians and Americans, of Danish ancestry, and people who have never sat foot in Denmark, were just as happy as Danes, born and living in Denmar, even if they had to pay for their own education and their own health care.

The bottom line is that government handouts do not make people any happier or unhappier.

It’s genetic!
