The NJAA Charitable Fund, Inc., has announced that seven students from New Jersey and one Pennsylvania student are the recipients of a total of $20,000 in college scholarships for the 2014–2015 academic year. The scholarship program is made possible through the support of members of the New Jersey Apartment Association, a non-profit trade association representing owners, managers, builders and developers of nearly 190,000 rental homes in New Jersey as well as hundreds of suppliers to the multi-family housing industry.

“These students represent the future of business and industry and have been selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants for their academic achievements, leadership and participation in school and community activities,” said Brent Kohere, NJAA Charitable Fund president. “Their intended careers and backgrounds mirror the diversity of NJAA’s member firms and communities. We are pleased to assist these students in their academic pursuits and wish them continued success.”

The New Jersey recipients are Julia Cazan of Sicklerville (junior, Philadelphia University); Joseph Kuperschmidt of Voorhees (freshman, Georgetown University); Janel Eldridge of Sewell (sophomore, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University); Marharyta Labkovich of South Amboy (freshman, CUNY Hunter College); Rachel Mendelowitz of West Orange (sophomore, University of Delaware); Brittany Royce of Livingston (senior, Livingston High School to attend University of Maryland); and Alisa Wilkinson of Passaic (senior, St. Mary’s High School/Rutherford to attend Caldwell College). Montana Morris (senior, Hatboro-Horsham High School to attend Rider University) is a resident of Horsham, PA.

To be eligible for one of the $2,500 scholarships, applicants must be a dependent child of a full-time NJAA member firm employee or reside in an NJAA member community. The student also must plan to continue his or her education at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. High school seniors or graduates and current post-secondary students may apply each year during the course of their undergraduate studies.

The mission of the NJAA Charitable Fund is to bring the collective resources of the multi-family housing industry together to enhance the quality of life for all New Jerseyans. This year-round effort is made possible through the support of NJAA members who are dedicated to providing safe, clean and affordable rental homes to more than a million residents throughout the state.
