Four of Burlington County College’s Phi Theta Kappa students were honored for their outstanding academic accomplishments, leadership and community service at the BCC Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, June 17.
BCC students Kyra Jenkins, of Burlington, Nathan Wilson, of Shamong, Rachel Malette, of Mount Holly, and Bryanna Wolstenholme, of Eastampton, were joined by BCC’s PTK Chapter (Chi Iota) Faculty Advisor, William Whitfield, for the recognition event at the meeting.
“We celebrate academic achievement, especially when it is linked with community service and leadership skills that predicate future success,” BCC Interim President Dr. David I. Spang said. “These four students are excellent examples of the rich academic tradition at Burlington County College.”
Jenkins and Wilson were both presented with USA TODAY’s 2014 All-USA Community College Academic Team nomination certificates. The program recognizes high-achieving community college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor in addition to leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society. Each college can nominate two students for the merit-based program, which is supported by Follett Higher Education Group, the American Association of Community Colleges and PTK, the international honor society for community colleges. “The entire Board of Trustees is proud of the hard-working, dedicated and civic-minded students at Burlington County College,” Board Chair George Nyikita said. “We congratulate them, applaud their effort and look forward to the many wonderful accomplishments they will achieve.” Malette and Wolstenholme were congratulated by the Board for being among New Jersey’s 37 best and brightest community college students to be named to the All-State Academic Team, sponsored by PTK and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges. The honor is reserved for community college students who display outstanding academic achievements and exceptional service to their communities
