Pet Adoption Day in Voorhees June 21

Two Voorhees businesses, AAA South Jersey and The Animal Welfare Association, are pairing up to host a Pet Adoption Day on Saturday, June 21. The event will be held at AAA South Jersey headquarters, located at 700 Laurel Oak Road in Voorhees, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The animals will be in the lobby of the AAA South Jersey building.

The event is free and open to the public.

Dogs and cats will be available from the Animal Welfare Association for on-site adoption that day. Adoption fees range from $50 to $225, depending on the type of pet, its size and its age. Cats and dogs offered for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, have up-to-date vaccinations and come with one month of free pet insurance, courtesy of AWA. All animals are required to go home with a collar, tag and leash or carrier, all of which will be available for purchase on-site.

“This type of event provides an excellent showcase for the outstanding services available from both organizations,” said Carol Scott, president and CEO of AAA South Jersey. “For our members, they can learn of the valuable resources that the Animal Welfare Association offers to pet owners and animal lovers. For people looking to adopt a pet, they can come to our office and find out all about AAA, and the many products and services that we offer.”

AAA South Jersey will have a special membership offer for anyone who adopts a pet that day.

The AWA is competing for a chance at more than $600,000 in grant funding, including a grand prize of $100,000, in the 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters and their communities aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. The AWA has a goal of helping 1,200 animals find their “forever home” during the challenge.
