Mt. Laurel Police setting up DWI checkpoints through May 15

Chief Dennis Cribben and the Mt. Laurel Police Department will use roadside checkpoints during the spring and summer seasons in the enforcement of intoxicated and impaired drivers. Driving while intoxicated is a very serious violation of state law and taken very seriously by the entire Mt. Laurel Police Department.

Police officers from this agency will utilize appropriate traffic control devices to facilitate roadside checks in accordance with departmental police and law. Motorists traveling on the selected roads will be asked to slow down and even stop during the course of a checkpoint. Police will make every effort to limit traffic delays. Motorists are asked to be patient and cooperate with such proactive measures in a “police-public partnership” on making our roadways safer for everyone. Our goal is to prevent motorists from driving while intoxicated.

Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds collected by the court system will be used to fund these DWI enforcement efforts.

The aforementioned checkpoints may be operational May 15. The exact locations, dates, and times will not be revealed at this time. However, potential areas of operation will be major roadways that pass through the township.

All checkpoints will be highly visible at the time of execution. A letter of request and justification specifically indicating the exact locations, dates and times will be on file with the police. Concerned citizens are always encouraged to report erratic or DWI driving to local authorities.
