A local teen has been selected to attend a special summer school for future leaders and has very little time to raise $4,850 so that she can get there.
Rebecca Shults, a 15-year-old sophomore living in Tabernacle, found out that she has been accepted to attend the JSA Summer Program at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. But she has very little time to raise money to pay her tuition, room and board, travel and other expenses. While her family is paying for a small portion of her tuition, Shults needs to raise the rest.
So, this local high school leader is hitting the local service club circuit and seeking any and all financial support she can get.
Shults is collecting old cell phones, empty ink cartridges and empty toner cartridges as part of a fundraising initiative. Anyone who wishes to donate can contact her at: Shults98@gmail.com

The 2014 Junior Statesmen Summer School will be held from July 13 though Aug. 3. While there, students take college-level courses in United States government and speech.
They also participate in nightly debates of controversial public policy issues in a congressional workshop. Highlighting the month-long session will be frequent meetings with a high-level group of leaders from government, business and media. This nonpartisan speakers program gives future leaders a chance to share ideas with today’s political powerbrokers.
Shults is considering studying law and politics in college. She is particularly excited about getting a glimpse of college-life at the JSA Summer School.
Shults was accepted into this prestigious program because of her outstanding academic record and potential for leadership. She is not only an exemplary student, she is also active in extra-curricular and community activities.
She has volunteered at the Pinelands Branch Library in Medford and competes with the NICHE mock trial team who are the current Burlington County champions.
Shults is very involved with the Living Water Theatre Company and also serves as the state assembly representative of the Renaissance Council Chapter JSA.
