Haddonfield Civic Association’s Alfred E. Driscoll Award being presented to Jack O’Malley
The Haddonfield Civic Association is pleased to announce that Jack O’Malley has been chosen as the 2014 recipient of the Alfred E. Driscoll Award for Community Service. Mr. O’Malley will be presented the award at the HCA’s Annual Meeting and Town Dinner. The event will take place on April 24 at Tavistock Country Club.
“On behalf of the Haddonfield Civic Association, I am pleased to announce that the winner of the 2014 Alfred E. Driscoll Community Service Award is Jack O’Malley,” said Lee Albright, HCA President. “The Board of Governors is very impressed with his extensive record of dedication to Haddonfield’s Youth Sports Programs as a coach, through service in related organizations and his participation in several important civic causes. The Driscoll Award was created to recognize the role models in our community with the hope that others will be inspired to do the same. Jack has been a perfect example of the ‘uncommon’ volunteer the Driscoll Award seeks to honor. It was a slam dunk,” Albright said.
A lifelong resident of Haddonfield, Mr. O’Malley has actively volunteered for various sports and civic organizations for more than 20 years. Since 1992, Mr. O’Malley has coached various youth sports teams in town, including little league, pigtail softball, youth basketball, youth soccer and youth football teams.
In addition to coaching teams, Mr. O’Malley is an active member of several athletics-based boards in town, including the Haddonfield Memorial High School Hall of Fame Committee, Haddonfield Youth Soccer Board, Haddonfield Youth Basketball Association, Haddonfield Recreation Council, and Haddonfield Youth Football and Cheerleading Board.
In addition to volunteering for sports-related organizations, Mr. O’Malley dedicates many hours to civic causes and groups, including the Community Budget Advisory Committee. O’Malley helped create the Drexel Partnership and Tuition Student Programs, among several other ventures.
O’Malley is also an ardent supporter of Autism Speaks, helping team “Rally for O’Malley” raise over $200,000 for autism research since 1999.
“As a lifelong resident of Haddonfield, I am very familiar with the Alfred E. Driscoll Award and all it stands for, and I am surprised and honored to be recognized as the civic association’s 2014 recipient,” said O’Malley.
The community is welcome to attend the HCA’s Annual Meeting and Town Hall. In addition to honoring O’Malley as the Driscoll Award winner, the HCA will also recognize the Bradshaw Essay contest winners, and the Kaufman Award performing arts recipient from Haddonfield Memorial High School.
