Shamong residents are asked to assist in township snow removal

As residents are already aware, our area is expecting another significant snow storm tonight into tomorrow. Please be advised that the Shamong Public Works Department’s primary goal during this winter weather is to maintain safe township roadways, focusing primarily on the township’s main roads. Once the main roads have been cleared the focus then will shift to all secondary/neighborhood roads.

This winter has been a challenge to all of the township and it is not over! Unfortunately, the township has a limited supply of salt and does not anticipate any additional shipments for at least another week. Please know that this is due to an increased demand for salt over the entire east coast, and not for a lack of foresight by your township representatives. That being said, the township will focus on salting the main roads and follow roadway treatment procedures as outlined above. Please take extra caution when driving on secondary/neighborhood roads, which may only get salted at the intersections due to the limited salt supply.

The township also asks for your assistance and cooperation as you:

* Remove all hockey nets, basketball nets, etc. from the shoulder of roadways so that they will not be damaged by plows

* Shovel and/or blow snow from driveways onto the curb and/or lawns, not into the streets

* Do not park cars on the street from one hour after the snow begins until after streets have been plowed to allow for sufficient, normal flow of traffic. Remember that fines can be incurred for those illegally parking on township roadways during snow emergencies.
