Three Medford high school students win leadership awards

Three Medford students were honored by Widener University as winners of the third annual High School Leadership awards.

The university recognized 134 students from area high schools for their abilities to stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools.

Amanda Del Rossi, a junior at Bishop Eustace Prep School, was recognized for taking a stand against bullying by writing and producing a video regarding the effects of bullying. Del Rossi is also an active member of the Friends of Rachel organization and will be working on Challenge Day, a two-hour seminar for the student body about respect and compassion.

Jacob Demree, a junior at Lenape High School, was recognized for committing to Lenape’s No Place for Hate club by taking on a leadership role in the Anti-Defamation League. Demree also organized the Upstander campaign and spoke at a school-wide assembly of 2,000 students about being an Upstander.

Bridget O’Hanlon, a junior at Shawnee High School, recognized for serving as a student liaison for the Medford Neighborhood Services Advisory Council, providing the community representatives with a student perspective on any particular issue being discussed. In addition, she has become a leader in several organizations at school that combat drug and alcohol abuse and bullying.
