Obituary: Thomas S. Spinanger

On Nov. 29, Thomas S. Spinanger died at age 71.

Spinanger was a resident of Haddonfield since 1969. He was also a beloved husband of 48 years to his high school sweetheart Valerie (nee Urbanowitz) and a loving father of Victoria Spinanger (Andrew Holtsbery) of Syracuse, Ny.

He is also the loving brother of Carol Ivins of Doylestown, Pa, and Susan Stevens; brother-in-law of Kathryn Keller of Springfield and Theodore Urbanowitz (Gladys) of Moorestown.

Spinanger is also the dear uncle of several nieces including Julia & Claire Keller and Great Uncle of a niece and nephew.

Spinanger graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

During the Vietnam War, he proudly served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant.

Spinanger began his career in Electrical Power Engineering and Project Management at GE (1964–1975) in Philadelphia. He continued his career from 1975–2001 at ABB in North Brunswick and from 2001 until his retirement in 2011 at Boeing in Ridley Park, Pa.

He was a world traveler and visited Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Sweden, England, Scotland and Switzerland primarily for business but also for pleasure when his wife accompanied him. He was also an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was licensed professional engineer in PA.

Mr. Spinanger’s family will hold a private service on Friday, Dec. 6, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., where Military Honors and a Family Reminiscence Service will follow at 11 a.m.

His family plans a public memorial service in the spring at their other residence in Upper Black Eddy, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Spinanger’s name to the AWA Development Office, 509 Centennial Blvd., Voorhees, NJ 08043 or via www.awanj.org
