Mayor: Voorhees Police Holiday Fund helps local families

Voorhees Township is fortunate to have one of the finest police departments in New Jersey. It works hard to keep our community safe and to allow our families to sleep peacefully at night.

In addition to their service while on duty, our police are active in serving our community while off duty. For over the past decade, they have sponsored a Holiday Fund Drive to help bring smiles to the faces of deserving local families. This year is no exception.

Several deserving area families are chosen to benefit from this wonderful cause. The police will provide the family with toys, clothes, food and gift cards. Volunteers raise the money, then do all the shopping and wrapping. The presents are delivered by Santa Claus escorted by our police and fire trucks.

If you are aware of a family who might be deserving of such a gesture during this holiday season, please contact Stephanie Fowler of our police department at 882–1162.

Donations can be made in person or by mail to Stephanie Fowler, the Voorhees Police Holiday Fund, 1180 White Horse Road, Voorhees NJ 08043. Make checks payable to the Voorhees Police Holiday Fund.

During this holiday season, it is always more rewarding to give than to receive!

• The Voorhees Cultural and Diversity Foundation Board of Trustees, along with the support of the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders, is sponsoring a fundraiser to help the Philippine victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan. As the Philippine culture is an important part of the Voorhees community, we must do our best to contribute to this humanitarian effort.

The event will be held Friday, Dec. 6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lions Lake Community Center located at 101 Dutchtown Road. Refreshments will be served. Admission is $25 (you can pay at the door or mail your check).

Checks can be made out to VCDF, Inc. Please note “Filipino Relief” on the check. All contributions are tax deductible and all donations will go directly to aid the typhoon victims. VCDF mailing address is PO Box 902, Voorhees, NJ 08043–0902.

• The Lions Club will host “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Lions Lake Park Banquet Facility, 101 Dutchtown Road. Santa moves from table to table to visit with the children so bring your camera. For more information, call Dennis Hunt at 795–4273.
