Perkins Center for the Arts hosts inaugural Wiffle Ball Cup on Sept. 21

Batter Up! The start of a new Moorestown tradition gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the inaugural Perkins Center for the Arts Wiffle Ball Cup.

This low-pressure/no-pressure sporting event will see five-person teams playing Wiffle Ball in a tournament style challenge, on the beautiful five-acre Perkins Center property, at the intersection of Camden Avenue and Kings Highway (Main Street.)

“Moorestown is a sports and arts-loving town, and we wanted to do something new to encourage people to enjoy the beautiful Perkins arboretum property and raise funds for Perkins Center’s children’s outreach programs” said Paul Canton III, event-organizer and Perkins Center Board member.

Families, businesses and neighborhoods are encouraged to register their teams. All ages and co-ed teams are encouraged. Perkins Ceramic Studio manager Paul Serena has created a one-of-a-kind first place trophy for the winning team. Second- and third-place teams will also be awarded handcrafted ceramic trophies from Perkins.

The team that comes in last will receive a toilet bowl (clean) donated with tongue-in-cheek by Paul Canton.

In keeping with the family-friendly, whimsical feel of the day, there will be a craft station for kids, foods for sale, gourmet coffee from Lacas, a pottery seconds sale and live music.

Families, teens and everyone with a sense of humor are invited to cheer on the teams, picnic on the grounds and just enjoy a beautiful fall day in Moorestown. Visitors can stop by the event at any time during the day.

At five acres, the Perkins property is large enough for four games to run simultaneously, so there will be plenty of exciting wiffle ball action to see. Teams registered thus far include: Fazler Engineering – Architecture, Schnader Attorneys at Law and Canton Custom Homes.

Team registration (for five people, which includes five official Wiffle Ball Cup t-shirts) is $200/$40 per person. Procrastinators can still register their team the day of, for $250.

To register and select t-shirt sizes, please visit www.perkinscenter.org and click on the blue wiffle ball icon.

In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Oct. 5.
