Breakfast Rotary Club seeks service award nominees

Inspired by their own motto of “Service Above Self,” the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club has begun a search for others who also live by that credo.

“Our club will hold its fifth annual Community Service Awards dinner at Venice Plaza on Jan. 23, 2014,” Mark Schott, committee chair, said. “We are hoping the community can help us select three recipients for these prestigious awards by sending us their nominations.” The Voorhees Sun is the media sponsor for the program.

Nomination forms are available by logging onto the club’s website at VoorheesBreakfastRotary.org.

The Voorhees Citizen of the Year must be a Voorhees resident. However, their contributions and impact to society need not be limited to Voorhees Township. The Voorhees Business Person of Year is not required to be a Voorhees resident and he or she will be selected based on their accomplishments within the Voorhees business community only.

The Voorhees First Responder of the Year is not required to be a Voorhees resident but their service area must primarily include Voorhees. Police, Fire/Rescue/EMT/Paramedics/Emergency Room staff would fit in this category.

Completed nomination forms may be sent to the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1645, Voorhees, N.J. 08043, Attn: Mark Schott. Deadline is Oct. 8.

The Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club meets weekly every Thursday from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the Short Hills Restaurant and Deli in Cherry Hill. Chartered in 2001, the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary is a vibrant and active service club. It coordinates the annual Voorhees Township Spring Egg Hunt and donate dictionaries, schoolbook bags and supplies to Voorhees students, as well as Thanksgiving baskets to area families who are disadvantaged. In addition, the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club works with other community service organizations, such as the Ronald McDonald House and Cathedral Kitchen.

Internationally, the club assists in the Polio Plus program to eradicate polio worldwide, supports an orphanage in Santo Domingo and helps with projects to provide clean water in developing nations.

Anyone interested in joining the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club or would like to find out more about the awards program including sponsorship opportunities, should contact Schott at (856) 772–3384 or Nick Colanzi at (856) 435–6200.
