Student Ryan Bentz receives scholarship

A Camden County College student was among the 16 community college students throughout the state to receive Research & Development Council of New Jersey Merit Scholarships for 2013–2014. Voorhees resident Ryan Bentz, an engineering science major, was recognized.

Each year, the council awards scholarships to New Jersey community college students who are enrolled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related fields of study. Selection criteria include a grade-point average of 3.5 or greater, extracurricular activities, financial need, other awards received and post-graduation career goals.

Bentz has a 3.7 grade-point average and works as a computer-aided engineering design tutor at the college. He is the communications officer for the CCC Engineering club and is a student member of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers Without Borders. He has volunteered as part of the College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and with The Trevor Project, which focuses on youth crisis and suicide prevention.

This year’s scholarship winners attended a luncheon at a council member’s research facility to strengthen their relationship with the research and development community and to discover more about their fields of study.
