Resident: Why do citizens carry concealed weapons?

In response to the article “Is there a ‘justifiable need?’” sounds like Pierce Morgan (CNN) wrote the article. “What we are not for is wielding these arms in public, with no legitimate purpose.” Police officers, security officers and other officials “wield their weapons” (open carry, show of force/authority). The rest of us (get real types) are only allowed to carry concealed. That means hidden by the way, or making sure you don’t “print.” You have to wear proper clothing, holster and weapon (.44 Magnum, Uzi, AR-15 doesn’t fit well in your waist band for some reason).

There is a mandatory course one must take to get the permit. The course explains in detail the “rules of engagement.” If you break the law you are going to jail. . .period.

Many in New Jersey have “concealed carry permits” issued by Utah and Florida. We can carry in 30-plus states if we chose to; they (reciprocate) respect the right to carry.

To get the permit there are fees, courses, training, etc. And ultimately you sell your soul to “Big Brother” who has more information about you in their databases.

Ever driven or taken the train to Camden? How about Atlantic City, Trenton or Newark? One wrong turn in those places and it’s welcome to downtown Beirut. I have never seen a police officer on/in a PATCO or SEPTA train in my life.

They don’t have the numbers to patrol and be everywhere. So yes, I am willing to go through all the scrutiny, give up my privacy to state and federal agencies.

My “legitimate purpose” is to protect myself and especially my family. I prefer, and will call 911, 99 percent of the time. What happens with the 1 percent would be settled between God, the law and me.
