Burlington County Announces Countywide Food Drive Campaign

Burlington County Freeholder Director Joe Donnelly is working with Burlington County College, Burlington County Courts and local non-profit agencies to collect much needed food to help stop hunger in our area.

Freeholder Director Joe Donnelly is asking Burlington County employees, College employees, and Burlington County Courts employees to collect food items for our local food pantries starting today through Friday, Aug. 23.

“County employees have been extremely generous in past food drives and we are hoping that once again, everyone will join in with our efforts,” said Donnelly.

Residents and local businesses are also being asked to donate non-perishable food, money or food gift cards to their local food banks, or, to our partners, Catholic Charities and Christian Caring Centers. These two agencies are distributing all collected items to pantries across the County.

“I am asking County residents and local businesses to join our efforts to help stop hunger in Burlington County. Many of our residents are in need of food in these continuingly difficult economic times. We need to make sure all of our neighbors know we are all here to support them,” said Donnelly. “Together, we hope to fill our local pantries with enough food for everyone.”

Collection boxes are throughout County Buildings. Sheriff Jean Stanfield, who orchestrates a successful toy drive each year, has enthusiastically agreed to assist us in the collection process.

Food banks are most in need of donations during the summer months, when donations are traditionally lower.

The food banks are in desperate need of food items or food store gift cards so that they can purchase items that are in more demand.

The Food Banks need:

  • Breakfast Bars
  • Canned meals, such as mac & cheese, ravioli, beef stew, spaghetti & meatballs, etc.
  • Canned items such as soup, tuna, vegetables and fruits
  • Boxed or bagged items such as Cereal, noodles, pasta, rice, crackers and stuffing
  • Jarred items such as Jelly, peanut butter, pasta sauce, etc.
  • Bottled items such as juice
  • Shelf milk
  • Baby food

To ensure food safety, we cannot use:

  • Rusty or Unlabeled Cans
  • Perishable Items
  • Homemade Items
  • Noncommercial Canned or packaged Items
  • Open or Used Items
  • Out of Date or expired items

Here is a list of a few of the larger Food Pantries in our area. You may donate to any other pantry of your choice as well.
