Mayor’s column: Special election to fill Sen. Lautenberg’s seat Aug. 13

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey died on June 3, at the age of 89 after serving as a senator from 1982 to 2001 and again from 2003 until his death.

Gov. Christie has called for a special election to fill Lautenberg’s seat. The special primary election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, and the special general election will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The polls will be open on the above dates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Your polling place is listed on the sample ballot you will receive in the mail.

Polling places in Voorhees are as follows:

District 1 and 4 at Osage Elementary School, 128 E. Somerdale Rd.; District 2 at Kirkwood Fire House, Spruce Avenue and Burnt Mill Road; District 3 at Kresson Fire Hall, 423 Cooper Rd.; District 5, 12 and 18 at Voorhees municipal building, 2400 Voorhees Town Center; District 6 at Voorhees Township Public School administration building, 329 Route 73; District 7 and 19 at Voorhees Middle School, Holly Oak Drive (Theater lobby); District 8 and 14 at Kresson Elementary School, School Lane and Kresson Road (cafeteria); District 9 and 10 at Hamilton School, 23 Northgate Drive (gym); District 11 and 16 at Signal Hill School, 33 Signal Hill Drive (gym); District 13 at Brendenwood Senior Center, 1 Brendenwood Drive; District 15 at Kresson Fire House, 423 Cooper Road; and District 17 at Centennial Mills Clubhouse, 35 Alyce Lane.
