POLICE: accident leads to drug bust

On July 3 at 8:57 p.m., the Evesham Police Department responded to the intersection of North Elmwood Road and Brittany Boulevard for a single vehicle collision into a utility pole.

Arriving officers observed a two-door BMW that had crashed into a utility pole, and the driver was slumped over the steering wheel.

Electrical wires that had fallen from the pole, which ignited a fire on the ground, hampered the removal of the driver from the vehicle.

Evesham fire fighters and police worked together to remove the man from the vehicle.

Once removed from the vehicle, he was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The driver, age 45, of Marlton, was charged with DUI (drugs) along with other motor vehicle violations.

In addition to a DUI, the driver was found in possession of six bags of heroin.

He was charged with third-degree possession of heroin and released on his own recognizance.
