Participate in summer activities in Cherry Hill

Summer is upon us and there is no shortage of activities and events in Cherry Hill.

Cherry Hill Township

• The township is constantly offering events for residents and visitors. This summer, grab a blanket, lawn chair and the family for Music Under the Stars.

Each week in July, head to Barclay Farm, 209 Barclay Lane, at 6:30 p.m. for the opening act followed by the featured band.
Music Under the Stars was to kick off July 9 with the Larry Stevens Band.

The Larry Stevens Band features rock-pop with a twist of country from artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band and many more, the township website said.

On July 16, see featured band Hank’s Cadillac combine the great sounds of American history as it performs country, rock’n roll, R&B, folk and rock-a-billy favorites.

On July 23, swing with Zydeco-a-Go-Go, a unique band for the family. According to the site, the band plays a mix of Cajun, Zydeco, classic New Orleans, rhythm and blues, vintage Louisiana rock’n roll, plus 40s jump-blues jazz and swing music.
The last night under the stars will be July 30, when the Kenny Jeremiah Trio performs a “Birth of Rock” concert featuring the music of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Buddy Holly.

• The township will collaborate with the Katz JCC for Luncheon with the Arts for Seniors on July 19. The Sunshine Boys will bring the sounds of the summer. Additionally, a hot chicken lunch will be served after the entertainment.

The cost is $5 prior to the event and $8 the day of the event, at the Katz JCC, located at 1301 Springdale Road.

For more information, email Arts@CHTownship.com or call (856) 488–7868.

• The Mountain Bike Skills Clinics Series continues July 20.

Whether you’ve been riding for a day or a year, the clinics are designed for anyone who wants to pick up (or brush up) off-road riding skills. The clinics will focus on the fundamentals of mountain biking: basic bike set-up, rudimentary riding techniques, including climbing, descending, cornering, braking and shifting, plus trail essentials, such as repairs, etiquette and equipment selection. More advanced skill sets will be added as participants progress through the year. You are invited to come once or as many times as you would like, the township website said.

• Live well with Cherry Hill and the Riversharks at the Cherry Hill Living Well Night at the Riversharks on Thursday, July 25.
Come out and enjoy a night at the ballgame and, before you enter, be sure to purchase your fresh fruits and veggies from the Springdale Farmers Market on the front plaza.

The event will run from 7:05 to 9:05 p.m. The game will start at 7:05 at Campbell’s Field, 401 N. Delaware Ave. in Camden.
Tickets cost $7. To purchase them, log onto Riversharks.com; select “Riversharks Fundraising Program; enter Springdale Farm.

Fun for the kids

If some events are too much for the younger children, attend these events.

• Head over to the Discovery Museum, where the Discovery Theatre presents the classic “cotton tale” of the little rascal rabbit who wants to see the world outside his rabbit hole. The musical runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through July 25 at 2 p.m. A special evening performance is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m.

The Discovery Museum is located at 2040 Springdale Road, Suite 100. For more information, visit the website

• Springdale Farm, Cherry Hill’s “last working farm,” offers programs and events throughout the summer for the family.
Head to the farm to see what it’s all about and visit the site, www.springdalefarms.com, to see what events are scheduled throughout the summer.

For the parents

All couples need a little “grown-up time,” and this summer is no exception. Get dressed up and head out for some food and drinks.

• The Cherry Hill Mall’s Restaurant Week will run from July 14–20, with dinner and drink specials all six days.
