Voorhees’s Summer Twilight Concert Series is back for another year of free entertainment at John Connolly Park.

For 11 years, the concert series has had a compilation of cover bands playing music familiar to both the young and old.

“Every year, we kind of kick off the summer with the annual Summer Twilight Series,” said Mike Marchitto, director of special events and the township economic development director.

This year, the series is made up of four different performances spread out from June to August with a movie night ending the series in September.

Marchitto said, like every year, there are both new and old bands in the mix — a familiar practice used every year when making the list. He said he likes to “freshen up” the series, while bringing back the crowd favorites.

Dr. K’s Motown Revue, a 12-piece Motown cover band, is new this year. The band would play covers such as “Uptight” by Stevie Wonder, “Heat Wave” by Martha & The Vandellas, “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” by Marvin Gaye and more.

“Fans worldwide know the sounds and everybody knows the songs,” he said.

“Lets Hang On,” a Franki Valli and Four Seasons tribute band is also new this year.

Returning bands such as Strawberry Fields, covering songs from The Beatles, and Cocktail Party Phenomenon are also making appearances.

Marchitto said Cocktail Party Phenomenon, a fusion/jam/jazz band, is a “resident band” of Voorhees and the concert series extravaganza.

All events are free and those attending are allowed to bring non-alcoholic drinks and food to enjoy.

Dr. K’s Motown Revue is performing on June 13 (rain date June 14), Strawberry Fields will perform on July 11 (rain date July 18), “Lets Hang On” will perform on Aug. 8 (rain date Aug. 9) and Cocktail Party Phenomenon will perform on Aug. 29. All performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The annual movie in the park event is on Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Voorhees students will pick the featured film. The rain date is Sept. 28.

“It’s a great tradition that we keep following over the years,” Marchitto said.
