Mayor’s column: The Summer Twilight Series is almost here

The Voorhees Township Committee is pleased to welcome the summer of 2013 with our annual “Summer Twilight Series,” with five events scheduled for the “great lawn” at Connolly Park. This year Voorhees Township presents another fun filled summer of free entertainment.

The first show is Thursday, June 13 (rain date June 14) and will feature the sounds of Dr. K’s Motown Revue. Voorhees Township brings a touch of the Motown Sound to Connolly Park for the first time ever. Without a doubt, the Motown Sound has left an indelible stamp on the hearts, souls and minds of several generations of fans worldwide. The Motown Sound lives on through the movies, radio, television commercials, dance halls and weddings.

On Thursday, July 11 (rain date July 18) Voorhees Township welcomes rock legends. Back by popular demand, Strawberry Fields: a Tribute to Beatles. They were the only band chosen to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the historic 1965 Beatles concert live at Shea Stadium!

The “Summer Twilight Series” continues to roll on Thursday, Aug. 8 (rain date Aug. 9) with the first time appearance of “Let’s Hang On” A Musical Tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Come out and enjoy the hits that Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons made famous. Enjoy the dynamic songbook of those boys from Jersey!

The tradition continues on Thursday, Aug. 29 (rain date Aug. 30) when a group of local talented artists performs some new and classic rock songs. Cocktail Party Phenomenon will be back playing on the “great lawn.” The show includes a full horn section and mini-choir of incredibly talented vocalists. They are quickly becoming Voorhees Township’s very own house band!

The Summer Twilight Series concludes with the Township’s Annual Movie Night in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 21, (rain date of Saturday, Sept. 28). The students in the Voorhees Schools will vote on their favorite movie to be shown on the “big screen.”

The Township’s “Summer Twilight Series” provides free fun for all ages. All events are at Connolly Park on Centennial Blvd. with plenty of free parking. The series is made possible through the generosity of our sponsors: The Mall at Voorhees Town Center, Hardenbergh Insurance Group, Brandywine Senior Living, DiMeglio Construction, The Hampton Inn, Environmental Resolutions, Republic Bank, The Wire and The Voorhees Sun.
