Memorial Day is for remembering and honoring military veterans. This day is for the soldiers who died while protecting their country, especially the ones who died in battle.

“Mt. Laurel Township has been recognizing our military personnel for years. In 1991, a Veterans Memorial was built in Laurel Acres Park to honor our veterans,” said Meredith Tomczyk, township clerk. “A structure was constructed through community efforts so people were able to visit and reflect upon our history and the brave soldiers who have served our country.”

Mt. Laurel will holding a Memorial Day Tribute on Thursday, May 30 at 6 p.m. at Laurel Acres Park, located at 1045 S. Church St.

“For five years, Mt. Laurel has brought the community together in recognition of Memorial Day,” Tomczyk said. “This year, local civic organizations, veterans, town officials and residents will be taking time to pay honor to remember those who made the greatest sacrifices for our freedoms. “

The day will start with the opening comments from the mayor, posting of colors, presentation of the flag, the National Anthem, the invocation, and the introduction of the distinguished speaker — Nino DePasquale of the Armed Forces Heritage House. Then there will be the laying of the wreaths, taps, retiring of colors, closing comments and the bagpipe.
