Spring events in full bloom

The weather is warming and spring events are beginning to appear around town. If you are looking for something this spring, there are plenty of events in Mt. Laurel.

Laurel Acres

The sleds are packed away and the hill at Laurel Acres Park is turning green for spring activities. Laurel Acres Park is located between Church Street and Union Mill Road.

The park has a walking path, playgrounds, a lake for fishing and sports fields.

The Green Team

Mt. Laurel’s Green Team is hosting a few events for Earth Day.

On Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m., the Green Team is showing “Trashed,” a film that investigates the garbage business in America, at the Mt. Laurel Library.

There will also be a discussion about the film.

Before the movie, the Community Clean Up is from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 20 at the community center. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to attend.

Gloves, bags and tools will be provided and light refreshments will be served after the clean up.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, April 21.

The second annual Green Expo is on Monday, April 22, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel Community Center. Various vendors will be at the free event showing residents how they can live environmentally sustainable.

Students from Harrington Middle School will also be there showing their environmental project.

On Sunday, April 21, the Green Team will be hosting an upcycling event for children from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the library.

Paulsdale Clean Up

Paulsdale is hosting a clean up event on Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Alice-Paul Institute, located at 128 Hooton Road.

Volunteers will help spruce up Paulsdale by picking up branches and debris.

Bring gloves and dress for the weather.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, April 27.

Book sale

The Mt. Laurel Library has a few events coming up in the spring before the summer arrives.

The Friends of the Mt. Laurel Library is hosting a Bargain Book and Media Sale from Wednesday, April 24, to Saturday, April 27.

Members are invited to join in on a preview night on Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. New members are welcome to join.

The sale will be open to the public on Thursday, from noon to 8:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There will be a bag sale on Saturday where attendees can fill a bag for $5.

All proceeds benefit the Mt. Laurel Library.

The library also hosts free monthly musical performances.

On Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. Jersey Transit Acapella will perform at the library.

The group typically performs without any instruments singing songs from jazz, reggae and R&B to today’s pop.

Sonic Escape Flute and Violin will perform on Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m. Shawn Wyckoff, flute, and Maria Millar, violin, will perform a blend of classical and world music from Germany, Ireland, Japan, China, the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and more.

Mad Science coming to library

Mad Science of West NJ is coming to the library on Saturday, May 23, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Children ages 6 to 10 are welcome to join in on an educational program where they create, explore and play with molecules. Children will also get a chance to make their own slime.

YMCA events

Mt. Laurel YMCA is hosting a free Healthy Kids Day on Sunday, April 28, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Children and families can participate in a karate demo, a zumbathon, arts and crafts, a Healthy U activity game, preschool gymnastics and more.

The YMCA is located at 59 Centerton Road.

Cinco de Mayo Zumbathon

Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services is hosting a Zumbathon in the north gym at Lenape High School on Sunday, May 5, from noon to 3 p.m.

There will be food, drinks, raffles and zumba.

Pre-registration prices are $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and children under 12.

Participants can also register at the door starting at 11:30 a.m. At the door fees are $15 for adults and $9 for seniors and children under 12.

Pre-registration for the event ends on Tuesday, April 30.
