BCC to offer support group for individuals with hearing loss

Burlington County College’s Career Success Solutions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing will host an open house at BCC’s Briggs Road Center on Tuesday, March 12 to kick-off free monthly support group meetings for individuals in Burlington and Camden Counties who have some degree of hearing loss and are currently working, job-seeking, volunteering or students. Career Success Solutions provides comprehensive employment services to individuals with hearing loss in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties.

At the open house, individuals with hearing loss and their guests will meet with local organizations and agencies that specialize in assisting those with hearing loss. Information on available support systems and coping strategies will also be shared through monthly meetings. Support group meetings will address how to overcome challenges such as understanding someone while talking on the phone, following a conversation when several people are talking, hearing alarms, and networking in a noisy environment.
