A crane tipped over onto a house on the 500 block of Woodland Avenue late this morning while attempting to remove a tree, according to reports.
“I think they misjudged the weight of that section of the tree,” said Fire Chief Joe Riggs.
Several area fire companies, including Westmont, Cherry Hill and Marlton, aided in the efforts to remove the crane.
The crane, operated by Dobbes Crane Company, was to be removed with two other cranes, who were stationed on each side of Woodland Avenue while waiting for live wires to be turned off by PSE&G crews.
The worker who was removing the tree was able to escape serious injury and was transported to Cooper Hospital with reports of a leg fracture. The crane’s operator was removed from the truck without injury.
“We’re taking a very cautious approach here,” said Riggs at the scene.
Several members of the surrounding community congregated to watch the crane removal.
Barry and Jean Oehlers live half a mile from the road, but drove over after hearing helicopters.
“We got in the car and followed the helicopter,” said Barry. “We like to follow the excitement.”
There was minimal damage to the two story home.
A bucket truck from a tree service was at the scene but not involved in the incident, said Riggs.
