Bus transportation halts some senior transportation in township

Senior transportation services have come to a halt, and many seniors are concerned the township has cancelled the service. Township officials say, though, that’s not the case.

The lack of transportation is leaving approximately 40 residents, who regularly rely on the service, without transportation. But the township has not cancelled the service, township manager Maureen Mitchell said.

“The bus has mechanical problems and needs repair,” she said in an email.

A resident expressed concern with the rumored transportation cancellation in an email to The Mt. Laurel Sun.

“These people depend on this to food shop, go for medical and dental appointments and even dialysis,” the resident said.

Mitchell said residents who need dialysis are being transported to appointments using a township vehicle, adding the township has reached out to Burlington County since it provides similar services.

“The township is trying to figure out how to best deliver these services to the approximately 40 residents who use the bus while the bus is out of commission,” Mitchell said.

According to Mitchell, the Mt. Laurel Board of Education will have a temporary bus available for the seniors until the township can find a permanent solution.
