Borough Commissioners approved three court appointments at the Tuesday, Jan. 8 meeting.
A joint services agreement with the borough of Audubon is now beginning its third year for the use of municipal court.
According to Commissioner Ed Borden, the agreement saves the borough more than $60,000 per year in court costs.
“Thus far, it’s worked out very well for us,” he said.
Commissioner Jeff Kasko agreed with Borden.
All feedback he has heard, Kasko said, has been positive.
Dean J. Buono, Esq., was appointed to the position of prosecutor, Charles Wigginton, Esq., was appointed to public defender and Jean Phillips, CMCA, was named court administrator.
The three terms all expire in December of this year.
Reconstruction bids rejected
Thirteen companies bidding for the reconstruction project of Cedar Avenue, Farwood Road and Longwood Drive were rejected at the meeting for being over budget.
The ongoing project, said Colombi, is not finished and she apologized for the slowness of the process.
“This has been a very long project,” she said.
School Board Recognition Month
Haddonfield Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Richard Perry and the Board of Education’s Vice President, Glenn Moramarco, were on hand at the meeting to receive a proclamation designating January as School Board Recognition Month in the borough.
There are nine community members serving on the school board.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had a better working relationship,” said Colombi, citing shared properties, buildings and staffs.
People move to Haddonfield for the schools, said Moramarco.
“It’s all about the kids,” he said. “We’re all serving the same goal.”
Next meeting
The next meeting of the Borough Commissioners is currently scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 22, voting day for borough residents, at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall.
