Haddonfield signs on for third year of shared court services

Haddonfield Commissioners voted to approve a third year of shared court services with the Borough of Audubon at the Tuesday, Dec. 11 regular meeting.

The agreement was originally greeted with some anxiousness, said Mayor Tish Colombi, but it has worked out well thus far.

“You do not want to go to court in Audubon,” she said.

The borough will pay a fee of $40,000.

After this year, the borough will have the option to re-negotiate an agreement if it is desired, said Commissioner Ed Borden.

The first year, he said, saved Haddonfield $60,000.

Partnership appointment

John Picking will be replacing the unexpired seat of Jackie LeMaina-Russell on the board of directors for the Partnership for Haddonfield, which is the management corporation for the borough’s business improvement district.

“He’s a good addition,” said Commissioner Jeff Kasko, who represents the commissioners on the board.

Picking’s term will expire on May 31, 2014.

Community Forestry Management Plan

The Shade Tree Commission has completed the 2012 to 2016 Community Forestry Management Plan. The commission, said Colombi, checks borough trees and determines which ones have to be removed.

Plus, there will be a special treat next year.

“They have a very exciting part of next year’s tricentennial,” she said, and will be planting trees in honor of Haddonfield’s 300 years of existence.

More information on that initiative will be coming soon, she added.

Additional details about the commission can be found on www.haddonfieldnj.org.

Early civic duty

Fourth-grade students from Elizabeth Haddon Elementary School were present at the meeting to ask the commissioners important questions.

The attendance came following a tour of borough hall, said parent and Haddonfield Civic Association President Dave Siedell, and the program has been ongoing for several years.

Siedell’s daughter, Meggie, asked if Colombi planned to run for mayor again.

Colombi responded that she would make her decision in the New Year.

Meggie was one of four students present, as the youngsters come to the meetings in groups throughout the school year, her father said.
