Burlington County residents will have yet another opportunity to shred confidential documents and safely dispose of computers and TVs this coming Saturday, Oct. 20, when freeholders will hold the sixth major recycling event of the year.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert Shinn Recycling Center located at 130 Hancock Lane in Westampton.
Nearly 4,000 residents participated in the previous five events, bringing in more than 102,000 pounds of documents, and disposing of another 145,000 pounds of “E-waste.”
Best of all, residents do not even have to leave their cars. Volunteers are on hand to unload the recyclables.
“This is one of the most popular and useful events the county provides to residents,” said Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio, who has served as a hands-on volunteer in recent events. “The stream of vehicles leaving off materials simply speaks for itself.
“It also speaks volumes that residents take the time to safely dispose of computer components and old TV sets,” Garganio added.
Those who can’t make this Saturday should mark their calendars for Saturday, Nov. 17, when the last event of the year will be held at the same time and place.
Residents are urged to bring only “confidential” documents for shredding, such as bank and credit card statements, tax returns, papers with account numbers of social security numbers. They will be shredded on-site.
They should not bring already-shredded paper, binders, plastic folders, computer disks or plastic credit cards. Up to four bags or boxes per household will be accepted.
In addition to TVs and computers, accepted E-waste includes laptops, monitors, computer keyboards, mice/cables, printers, desktop copiers, scanners, fax machines, VCR/DVD/MP3 players, cell phones, game consoles and rechargeable batteries.
