Take an intense workout class at the YMCA

Are you looking to get into strength training but not sure how to start? Have you been spent hours at the gym but still waiting to see results?

For fast-paced, strengthening workouts, check out the latest fitness phenomena to arrive at the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties.

From fitness leader Les Mills comes the original bar workout, BODYPUMP, and CXWORX, an intense 30-minute class that throws traditional core training on its head. The Y is one of only a small number of facilities in the area to offer these classes.

BODYPUMP is a non-impact weights-based exercise class that works every major muscle group in the body using weights, a bar and a step. It strengthens, conditions and tones the entire body, producing amazing results in just 50 minutes a day.

Based upon ground-breaking research, CXWORX utilizes resistance tubing and combines the most effective core exercises, targeting the ‘sling muscles’ connecting the upper and lower body as well as the muscles that are crucial to functional movement, balance and injury prevention.

“BODYPUMP and CXWORX classes have a rapid and dramatic effect on body shape,” said Laurel Allen, wellness director of the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties. “If you’re someone who thinks exercise classes are boring, these classes will absolutely change your mind. These motivating classes feature high-energy music and instructors giving constant encouragement and feedback throughout the sessions. The classes are always easy to follow too so there is no danger of feeling lost or self-conscious.”

Y instructors, fully-qualified in teaching BODYPUMP and CXWORK, offer guidance on the correct techniques throughout the classes, with people of all levels of fitness exercising together. Chart-topping rock and pop hits and compelling, easy-to-follow choreography keep participants going through each workout.

Developed in New Zealand, the LES MILLS range of exercise-to-music programs is fast becoming one of the world’s most popular ways to keep fit.

All the choreography is developed in conjunction with health experts to ensure the moves are safe, and classes are updated every three months so participants stay inspired. Five million people a week now take part in Les Mills programs in 12,000 clubs in more than 70 countries around the world.

BODYPUMP and CXWORX classes are offered free to Y facility members and are available for $50 for program members. CXWORKX is available for the $49 Class Pass during the fall sessions.
