Council meeting update

If you were unable to attend the council meeting on Monday, Sept. 24, here is a brief recap of a few meeting activities.

The longstanding former Acme property on Chester Avenue will finally have a resident after being for five years. Deputy Mayor Greg Gallo announced the “serious news” during council’s reports. Only a portion of the space will be occupied until further expansion into the remaining space of the property is filled.

The Moorestown Friends School is the current owner of the property.

The space will be used as professional office space, but the name of the company that will occupy the currently empty “little Acme” is an interior architecture and design firm currently located in Mt. Laurel.

According to town manger Scott Carew, the Moorestown Appearance Committee began reviewing proposals for exterior improvements and permits for demolition of the interior were received.

Carew mentioned there is no current time frame for the move in date and additional information is needed to determine if council’s approval is needed.

“The move will not be able to take place until construction permits are issued and work completed,” Carew said.

In March, the plan for the property was to turn it into a farmer’s market type institute. (Link to past article)

The property will not be a retail location, which is what most residents wanted, but at least it is no longer going to be empty, Gallo said.

“I am very happy to see that the building will be used by a social local business,” Carew said.

A new score board was placed at the Wesley Bishop north field. Donations paid for the scoreboard while township only had to pay for the footing review.

The Jeff Young park lighting project will no proceed until mid of late February. The lights will be up for the spring season.

Joseph T. Bretschneider Jr. was appointed as the new member of the Recreation Advisory Committee.

The council unanimously voted to authorize the purchase of police vehicles under State contract. This would be the first time township is getting police vehicles in 2 years, council member Stacy Jordan said.
