Dogs rescued from house fire in Haddonfield

The following was taken from a report of the Haddonfield Fire Company №1:

At approximately 5:56 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, Haddon Fire Company №1 responded to a reported house fire at 125 Prospect Road in Haddonfield. Upon arrival, assistant chief Sam Trotman found a heavy fire condition in the back of the dwelling on the first and second floor.

The dwelling fire was immediately upgraded to a Task Force Assignment with an automatic response from several neighboring fire departments, including Cherry Hill, Haddon Heights and Westmont.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions inside the home while attempting to extinguish the blaze and found that the fire had extended from the back porch area, up the back wall of the home and had entered into the attic space on the third level. The fire was extinguished using Haddonfield’s compressed air foam extinguishing system, which uses a combination of water, air and foam to quickly extinguish fires.

There was extensive fire damage to the exterior siding of the home and the entire attic area. In addition, the extreme heat from the fire caused the vinyl siding on the adjacent neighbor’s home to melt. That home was also soaked down to keep it from catching fire.

The property owners were not home at the time of the fire, however, their two dogs had to be rescued. Both dogs were located and carried out of the burning home by firefighters. Local neighbors cared for the dogs until the homeowners arrived.

The fire was placed under control in approximately 35 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the local Haddonfield Fire Official with the assistance of the Camden County Prosecutors Office fire investigation unit.
