Pineland Striders to host road races

On May 10, the Medford Town Council proclaimed June as Pineland Striders Month.

For the 35th consecutive year, the Pineland Striders are conducting road races. The races this year include a 5K, 10K and 1-mile kids fun run. They will be held at Shawnee High School on June 30.

The 5K and 10K start at 8:30 a.m., with the 1-mile run starting at 8 a.m.

If you sign up now, you save $5 off the day of race fee. We will have lots of raffles and each participant receives a tech T-shirt.

These races benefit the Precious Gems Memorial.

The Precious Gems and Pineland Striders have a close relationship.

Mike and Marilyn Geiger are long standing members of the Striders. Mike is one of our former presidents.

Amanda Geiger was one of the four local young women killed by a drunken driver in 1999. The Precious Gems provides community awareness of the perils of drunk driving, including law enforcement training on death notifications. Learn more at striderindependenceraces.com/index.html.
