The Haddonfield Civic Association (HCA) held its annual town dinner on Thursday, April 26 at Tavistock Country Club marking its 101st year of service to Haddonfield. Formed in 1911 to inform the public on subjects beneficial to the community, promote the discussion and study of civic issues, and to organize public discussion programs relating to the general welfare of the residents of the Borough, the HCA elected its incoming officers — Dave Siedell, President; Lisa Gerike McLaughlin, Vice-President; Robin Potter, Recording Secretary; and Lisa Mazzola, Treasurer. The outgoing President and Vice-President, Bill Tourtellotte and Greg Horton, were acknowledged for their service. Neal Rochford ably emceed the evening’s program.
The HCA presented the Harry T. Kaufmann Award to Jeffrey Eker, Jr., a graduating Haddonfield senior who has excelled in the performing arts and community service. The Bradshaw Essay prizes went to Emma Dodson and Samantha Gardner, also HMHS seniors, who read their winning papers to the appreciative audience. Howard Gillette, a History Professor at Rutgers, spoke about the current plan to merge the state university in Camden with Rowan.
Concluding the evening, Lee Albright received the Alfred E. Driscoll Community Service Award from Driscoll family members for her dedicated efforts on behalf of the town that have included chairing the Historical Preservation Committee, serving as president of the Historical Society and co-leading the HATCH Committee’s 150th anniversary celebration of Haddy’s excavation.
