Lenape High School science teacher named Burlington County Teacher of the Year

After careful review of submitted applications, Lenape High School science teacher Kim Murray was selected as the 2012- 2013 Burlington County Teacher of the Year. The selection committee was impressed with Murray’s knowledge and dedication as a teacher. They admired her enthusiasm for her profession and interest in the education of each student in her classroom. The committee members also noted that it was apparent from the letters of recommendation that her work is appreciated both in the school and the community. The committee members also recognized that the students in her class are truly fortunate to have such a talented teacher.

Along with the distinct honor as being named the 2012–2013 Burlington County Teacher of the Year, Murray will be asked to serve on county panels, committees, and task forces. She will also attend speaking engagements as well.

Murray’s next step as Burlington County Teacher of the Year is to compete for the State Teacher of the Year.

Lenape High School Principal Tony Cattani said, “Ms. Murray is a dedicated Chemistry teacher who demonstrates her passion for teaching every day. She is a master teacher who has the ability to make very difficult Chemistry concepts accessible and enjoyable for her students. Kim has continuously exhibited her commitment to her craft and profession through enriching professional development experiences at MIT, and has served as a presenter at the prestigious ChemEd Conference which is one of the premier high school Chemistry conferences in North America.”

“Ms. Murray’s passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom as well, as she has been a pioneer in connecting Lenape Science to the students of Mt. Laurel Schools through her ChemClub Science Day at Hartford School, and the Fun4Familiesfourth-grade Science Night here at Lenape. She is also the advisor for the award winning Deborah Heart and Lung Challenge Team, directed the faculty skit during Red and Gray Night, and was instrumental in the production of the inaugural Lenape Lip-Dub during Spirit Day. In addition, she is the creator and composer of the annual “HSPA Song” for the past several years, which has promoted student readiness and preparedness in taking the High School Proficiency Assessment.”

“Furthermore, she is a valued faculty member and respected colleague, whose contributions and level of commitment to Lenape High School make her a richly deserved recipient of 2012 Lenape High School Teacher of the Year Award, Lenape Regional High School District Teacher of the Year, and 2012–13 Burlington County Teacher of the Year.”
