Shamong obituary: Anne Fontana

Anne Fontana (nee Sodano/Napolitano), 87, died Friday, Feb. 24 at her home in Barnegat. Born in Kenvil, she resided in Montclair and Nutley before moving to Barnegat 16 years ago.

She was the co-owner of The Radcliffe Deli in Nutley for many years where she is remembered for her constant smile and customer service.

From a very young age, Anne demonstrated her love of family as she helped raise her eight siblings. Her passion for family grew, as she became a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always concerned for others, putting her own interests aside and working to keep her many families together.

Surviving are her children, Suzanne and Rocco Sblendorio of Shamong, Joseph Napolitano of Willingboro, Richard and Karen Fontana of Bridgewater, Michael and Susan Napolitano of Glen Ridge, and Cheryl Fontana of Campbell, Calif.; her grandchildren, Tara and Matt Talbot, Mark and Cheryl Sblendorio, Michael E. Napolitano, Zachary Fontana, Tylar Napolitano, and Kenny Fontana; her great-grandchildren, Kyrsten Napolitano and Madeline Talbot and her brothers, Joseph Sodano of Madison and Michael Sodano of Florham Park. Fontana is predeceased by two loving husbands, Joseph A. Napolitano and Carmine A. Fontana, and her grandson, Christopher Napolitano.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fontana’s name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org and the Meridian Hospice, c/o Meridian Affiliated Foundations, 1345 Campus Parkway, Neptune.
