Voorhees Rotary honoring Diversity Committee on January 26

Established in 2007, the Voorhees Cultural and Diversity Council was specifically created to identify and profile the talented and diverse multi-cultural and multi-ethnic community that exists in Voorhees Township. Since its inception, the committee has grown to 13 members and currently represents eight different and unique cultural groups.

Together, the members of the Voorhees Cultural and Diversity Council created and administer all of the following events and resources: 1.) A high school scholarship fund that grants three scholarships to deserving high school seniors each year; 2.) A middle school essay contest that rewards students for acknowledging and writing about the diversity within their communities and schools; and 3.) The spectacular International Day Celebration held annually at St. Andrews Church in Voorhees.

The Council is sponsored by the Voorhees Township Committee and the board members can be seen year round representing their commitment to diversity and inclusion while attending the many, many events held throughout Camden County. While each of these events continue to bring exposure to the depth of diversity found within Voorhees Township, the Council was especially honored when two of it’s members received recognition from the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club of Voorhees.

Deputy Mayor, Harry Platt, the liaison for the Township Committee and board member, Gwen DeVera received the honors of being recognized by the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club as Business Person of the Year and Citizen of the Year (respectively).
